BAI Kicks Off 95th Anniversary Celebration

With the theme: “Celebrating 95 Years of Service to the Animal Industry towards a Vibrant Animal and Health Production,” the Department of Agriculture-Bureau of Animal Industry (DA-BAI) commenced its 95th Founding Anniversary today, March 3, 2025. The event highlighted nearly a century of BAI’s dedication to animal health, food safety, empowering the livestock sector, and protecting the nation’s borders from transboundary animal diseases.


In her opening remarks, BAI Director Diosamia Sevilla acknowledged BAI’s unwavering commitment and dedication in transforming the animal industry, ensuring food safety and empowering local farmers.


DA Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr, through Undersecretary for Livestock Dr. Constante Palabrica, conveyed his deep appreciation for the agency’s 95 years of dedicated service to the agricultural sector, particularly to the animal and livestock industry. The Secretary highlighted the BAI’s crucial role in managing animal diseases that threatened the livestock industry. He commended BAI for their swift and persistent implementation of preventive measures, quarantine protocols and continuous research in order to protect the Philippine livestock industry.


Secretary Tiu Laurel also commended BAI’s ability to overcome these challenges by saying, “Your contributions in ensuring food security, promoting biosecurity measures, and improving breeding techniques have played a crucial role in maintaining the strength and resilience of the Agricultural Sector.


Looking ahead, the Secretary encouraged BAI to continue evolving in the face of challenges. “As we move forward, let us continue to adapt to the challenges of our time, ever mindful of our duty to safeguard not just our animals, but the welfare of the nation,” he urged.


Senator Cynthia Villar, through her Chief of Staff Attorney Rhaegee Tamaña, extended her heartfelt appreciation to BAI for its unwavering commitment to the animal and livestock sector over the past 95 years. She congratulated the BAI on reaching this significant milestone and emphasized the Bureau's important role in promoting animal health and food security in the country. She expressed her support for BAI’s mission and commended their dedication to advancing animal health and production in the Philippines.


One of the highlights of the opening program was the launching of the Compendium for the Assessment and Documentation of Native Animal Production Systems in the Philippines. This compendium will be a significant tool to empower native animal raisers all over the country.


During the program, key stakeholders, both in the government and private sector were recognized for their significant contributions to the advancement of the Philippine animal Industry. Awards included Newly Certified Good Animal Husbandry Practices Farms, Officially Accredited Animal Diagnostic Laboratories, Recognition of Donors for Tools in Disease Prevention and Control and Recognition of Collaborators in Animal Health, Human Health and Livestock Production Related Projects.


This program is the start of a week-long celebration of BAI’s 95th Anniversary. Various seminars, workshops and activities are lined-up throughout the week. Among the scheduled programs are meat processing seminars, workshop in livestock farming, native chicken farming seminar and anti-rabies vaccination.


As the Bureau celebrates its 95th Anniversary, the BAI looks forward to the future while maintaining its steadfast commitment to advancing the country’s livestock sector, supporting Filipino farmers and ensuring food security for the future generations.
